S’mae ffrindiau!

I’m delighted to share my new Welsh vocabulary book, Grow Your Welsh Vocabulary, created especially for learners who want more Welsh words in their toolkit. I wrote this book a little while ago and it has taken a bit longer than I intended to get it into print, but here it is in paperback or as a digital download PDF.

Why I wrote Grow Your Welsh Vocabulary

One of the great challenges of learning Welsh is moving beyond the words and phrases found in the first few lessons. You may understand the grammar, follow your course materials and manage familiar conversations, but still find yourself reaching for the same words again and again. I have taught Welsh for twenty years now and met so many learners who tell me that they wish they had a bigger vocabulary. So here it is! By the end of the book, you’ll have 1200 Welsh words which have been grouped in topics but which you can use in so many different settings.

What’s inside?

Inside there are 30 units which consist of four groups of ten words. The units are based on a topic – food, travel, health etc – and you can pick whichever topic you fancy. You don’t have to work through the book in order. There’s also a guide to pronunciation and help with learning Welsh vocabulary confidently and efficiently.

The book is suitable for learners at a range of levels. Beginners can use it to begin building their vocabulary steadily, while more experienced learners may discover forgotten words, useful alternatives and new ways of expressing themselves.

How to use Grow Your Welsh Vocabulary

  • choose a small group of words to learn each week;
  • prepare for a conversation class;
  • inspire a piece of writing or a diary entry;
  • create flashcards or vocabulary games;
  • revise words from a particular topic;
  • do the activities for each unit
  • or simply enjoy exploring the richness of the Welsh language.

I created Grow Your Welsh as the sort of resource I would be happy to give to my own learners. The book is now available as a premium colour paperback from Amazon, and a digital edition is also available through my Ko-fi shop.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already bought a copy, shared the book or supported my Welsh-learning work. Every purchase helps me to continue creating new resources for the Welsh-learning community.
